Sadly that was one of the methods I used and it didn't work ("Show or hide updates" troubleshooter was what I meant when I said "Microsoft's tool" on the post).

Thanks you for posting your reply and update.
Windows updates are rolled out to optimize the hardware and drivers on the computer. Drivers are developed by the manufacturers and sent to Microsoft so that they can include the latest version in the update.
If the newer version is developed by the manufacturer, soon enough it will be included in the Windows update. As a work around, you may perform a Driver Roll Back so that the driver goes back to the previous (working) state as soon as the update downloads an old driver.
Steps:-
1.Press “Windows + X” and select Device Manager.
2.Search for the Graphics Card from the device list.
3.Right click on the driver icon and click on Properties.
4.Go to Driver tab.
5.Select Roll Back Driver.

AMD already released 5 drivers after the one in Windows Update. The one Windows Update wants to install is almost 1 year old.
Rolling back the driver doesn't stop Windows Update from installing the old bad driver again, it just gives me a few time before doing it.
