Hello all, Damona here. Jace and I have been discussing the possibilities of Looking into a Minecraft Server for our community.
Now that said, obviously we don't have much planned out as of yet. We want to gauge interest to see who all'd actually be playing on the server if we go through with this.
We're also going to be looking for help keeping the server paid for. We can only do so much on our own, and I'm actually without job at the moment. That's where our poll comes in actually. Depending on how many people we have regularly using our server will depend on what sort of plan we get. (We may actually need to go a little higher to allow plenty of room for file size.) And the plan we get will determine how much we need to pay per month or year.
We'll most likely use a crowd-funding site, if not Paypal to cover donation collections if we get enough interested members showing up in here.
This website here seems to be one of the most promising I've seen so far with a lot of great mod support, both for mod packs and individual custom .jar files. Please check it out when you get the chance to see what all is available to us.
If you're up for joining in on this please make a post in this thread going by the following format.
- State your interest in playing: The poll will be public anyway, this is simply to help us keep track of who's in and who's not. If you aren't interested in playing mark only what applies to you.
- Your favorite game mode to play in: Survival, Creative, Hardcore
- What version of Mine Craft you want to play: 1.8.1, 1.7.8, etc. The version we use will determine what mods if any we can actually run on our server. Most well known mods may not be up to date with 1.8.1 yet.
- What mods if any you'd like to suggest for the server: Things like Carpenter's Blocks, Mo Creatures, Etc.
- What mod packs, if any you'd like to suggest for the server: This is just an example, there are more options on the hosting site if you look under plans.
- How much you think you'd be able to donate to keep the server running, per month: Even $1 can help out.
- Any additional comments or concerns you may have.
Ideally I'd like to go for a Yearly Plan, as opposed to a Monthly Plan. We'll get a 15% discount off a Yearly Plan. Additionally, using this method the server will only officially open once we've received enough money to cover all costs for the first year. This way, users can have a bit more breathing room when it comes to donating money for the server for the next year, being able to pay when they know they can afford it rather than having to rush to scrape together a little bit at a time from everyone per month.
Jace Edit: Donations to pay for the server should be sent to me, Jace, via Paypal. Email is Redfrost.ltd@gmail.com
State your interest in playing: Very willing once I can get a new computer that can play it properly.
Your favorite game mode to play in: Survival
What version of Mine Craft you want to play: 1.6.4 or 1.7.2, since those seem to be the most mod-capable. If we're doing vanilla, I'd think the newest version would be best.
What mods if any you'd like to suggest for the server: There's too many to list, but Orespawn and Tinker's Construct are at the top of my list, but if I can find a decent Megaman mod, I'll go with that.
What mod packs, if any you'd like to suggest for the server: CrazyCraft (Void's Wrath launcher, and I have the modpack downloaded if you guys need it.) Epic Craft (Feed the Beast Launcher)
How much you think you'd be able to donate to keep the server running, per month: I'd be able to donate $10 a month.
Also, if we could get a video series going on for the server, I'd be up for that as well.

What mods if any you'd like to suggest for the server: I probably won't be taking advantage of any of the mods ingame, so this doesn't really matter.

How much you think you'd be able to donate to keep the server running, per month: $10 a month seems a reasonable number (I can go more if needed, I suppose)

I suppose this will fair better than the last Minecraft Server?

Videos are more than likely up to the individual user to decide if they want to make them. Though a few group projects could be neat.
I also do expect this will fair better than the last server since we'll be using a hosting site for one, that way I or someone else won't have to exhaust their system, and the game can be up 24/7 this way.

Mmmm, missed that video post. If this gets off the ground, I'd be happy to do that myself as well, granted we get interesting things to record. :Y
Interest: I'm not a huge Minecraft guy, but I do know it's more fun with others so I'm willing.
Favorite Game Mode: Survival.
Mods: The Tekkit pack is a huge one which I think adds a serious amount of fun and variation to the game. Vanilla Minecraft is really boring tbh.
I can't donate anything at the moment, mostly due to not having my own money, but if that ever changes I will try and help. I'd like to see this happen.

As long as there are mods, I might join. I haven't played Minceraft in ages because I got really bored of it. I'm not even sure if I could get into it again.
Also, creative mode.
Also, creative mode.
Well regarding mods, there's at least one mod pack that myself, Turp and Ryo are all interested in.
http://ftbwiki.org/Direwolf20_1.7_Pack
Please check this link out and look through the mods in the pack, let us know what you guys think.
I'm particularly interested in the carpenter blocks and chisel mod. I like anything that gives me more building options.

So people know, depending on the amount of interest and cost of the Server I may be willing to pay for half of the server myself. Tho, if I may suggest! From the sounds of it the lapis pack would be best and if SC and Ryo are willing the three of us can split the cost? Ten bucks each isn't that bad
Ok guys, while going through things I found out we can set up special "Worlds" for our server and there's a bunch of them. So I'm gonna post a pic and a description of each and get some opinions alright?
Vanilla
Let Minecraft generate the world for you. Nothing special, just a regular Minecraft map for your enjoyement.(Can set a SEED for this one)
Topsy Vale
With a woosh and a whirl and maybe a swirl - the windmill goes on from dusk until dawn. Though it's style is tipsy, it does the job quickly of powering these farms without any alarm.
Sanctuary
A warm golden glow surrounds you, and the horrific sounds have hushed to a whisper. The walls of Sanctuary have protected many throughout the years, but adventure awaits you from outside its borders, and through the dark fall forests.
Plum Springs
An oriental secret, the Plum Springs tea house and spa are the perfect place for relaxation. Find your inner Nirvana, and let your mind flow as sand in the rock gardens, Koi in the ponds, the plum trees in the breeze.
Pirate Isle
AVAST! Embark upon an adventure on this tropical island. There seems to be a mysterious following of chubby bird idols scattered throughout the island. Scale the great volcano, or plunge deep into the coves and explore the secret hideaways of Pirate Island.
Homestead
For those that prefer a simple life, The Homestead allows you to relax in rustic luxury after a hard day out in the fields. This country styled manor brings both charm and practicality within its home and attached barn.
Hearthwood Lodge
Wipe your feet of the powder-snow outside, and welcome yourself to the warm embrace of this large but homely lodge. The spirit of winter may be knocking at the door, but don't let that chill you- there's plenty of gifts and merriment to go around!
Fort Stoneguard
This sturdy castle comes complete with fortifications and protected inner city within its walls. Stay safe from your enemies within the heavy stones of this vast keep. Pay tribute to the fallen knights who have protected this kingdom throughout time, or retire within the warm and inviting library and family quarters.
Boneyard
What happens when a dragon dies? The bones of fallen dragons rest in honor in this valley. Some have even been witness to viewing reanimation within The Boneyard from a particuarly willful dragon.
Archaeologists Dig
As sand and dust rise from the newly cleared streets, a grand temple sits finally uncovered from the dunes. With its doors finally opened, you will be the first to explore its depths! What treasures and wonders await you through its dark depths?
Accent
Nestled amongst the clouds rests these previously occupied floating isles. The mysterious architects seem to have been in a playful mood when they built the twisting and interconnected tunnels that navigate this airborne lookout.
Whew... Sorry for the corny dialogue. It was easier to quote the Server Site then write something up myself. Anyway, let us know what you'd like!
Tho just so you all know, choosing one of these custom maps COULD make it harder to showcase the mods and even cause all modded and normal generation of tiles and mechanics to be found by travelling far away from the spawn point

Huh, they all look pretty interesting.
I'll probably still wander off to build a my own 'little' fortress.
I'll probably still wander off to build a my own 'little' fortress.
So then. Not duplicating the questions, but in short: I would probably be playing sporadically, for periods of time before leaving for a while, simply because that usually ends up being how my interests run. My default response for a community server is Survival, though I suppose Creative is workable. I'm averse to Hardcore in this kind of thing, because I can guarantee I'll end up dying of something stupid eventually; the hazards of daily living, to say nothing of megaprojects, though if people are eventually let back in I would be less opposed to it. Not one for mods in most cases myself, so most recent version.
Personally, I'm averse to any sort of pre-generated or pre-used world options. The point is for us, the actual members of the forum and the server, to build something spectacular, isn't it? I don't see much point cluttering things up with something build by a completely unrelated unknown. And if the server does end up running mods that do anything with naturally generated blocks, there's no telling how much that pregenerated terrain will screw with mod resources.
Also, however it may sound coming from someone who will probably end up paying little if any of the cost, is there a system for upgrading a plan once the initial purchase has been made? The poll indicates almost a dozen people expressing interest, and it won't be long before everyone is pushing out the boundaries of the world and then doing it again in the Nether. If you end up underestimating the needed memory, not being stuck because of it would be nice.

Yes, we can upgrade/downgrade as needed. We can also change out Modpacks and the like as needed too. Right now due to issues we're not putting any Modpacks into the server. But we hope to change that as we go forward. Pretty much everything bout the server can be changed as needed really.
Whelp, first month is on me guys! Cause it's already up
Sever Name: Sprites Inc
IP Address: 198.24.175.34:41998
Let's get cracking. The one most important rule tho for this is don't fuck with other people's creations unless they say you can alright? Other than that it's pretty much the same rules there as it is here.
Game Type is Survival and due to issues there is no mods as of yet. We're going to be looking into adding them at a latter date however.

Attention: INC Server users
If you stumble into one of the grinders by accident and end up breaking it, that is unfortunate, but understandable. However, please make a note of it somewhere someone can see - e.g. here - so that I or someone else can go and fix the grinder, knowing ahead of time that you dumped magma over half of it.
It is much nicer to know half the room needs to be carved out again going in than to discover it after digging around because it's just not working.

I haven't got MC on PC, but this is pretty good reason for me to get it.
So if/when that happens, I prefer playing on Creative, just because the Survival grind gets old really quickly IMO, and I much prefer to just build cool shit.
Version is irrelevant, I'll download whatever everyone else is using if/once I buy it.
Mod packs and all that I don't know the PC versions of, but if the one realistic texture pack is possible (the name of which I'll edit into this post later), I'd really prefer just that one. Maybe the medieval castle pack, too, or whatever custom ones we can find/come up with.
Donations I can definitely chip in on, whether I'm playing or not. The amount will vary with my checks, but I can toss a bit in for sure.
As for the world, I'd be fine with any of those, but in particular I've got this feeling that going with Ascent, connecting all the floating islands, and building towers and shit up to them all on our own would yield some neat results, and be fun.
Maybe we could all resurrect the majestic Fort Bugs in a thousand times its former splendor.
Aside from that, it all just depends on what I get the damn thing. In the meantime, though, I am making custom skins on request, so if anybody on the server has that one character they'd want to skin, hit me up. Jace's turned out pretty nicely , so it's definitely something I'd be up for doing more of.

State your interest in playing: Very much interest as building is kinda my forte when it comes to Minecraft, and it's nice to have other people round when playing
Your favorite game mode to play in: Creative
What version of Minecraft you want to play: 1.7.10 because closest to latest version, yet mods!
What mods, if any, you'd like to suggest for the server: Project EMC / EE3 when it's released, Chisel
What mod packs, if any you'd like to suggest for the server: Would like a ME^3/ME^4/FTB Retro SMP server seperate but for the main one FTB Lite 2
How much you think you'd be able to donate to keep the server running, per month: Unfortunately, as I do not have a bank/PayPal, £0

BTW, where or who do we send our donations to?
Sorry, forgot bout that one. That'd be to me, SC. Using Paypal due to complications with the Donation Site thing I was fiddiling with. Didn't want to work... SO yea, Email for Paypal is Redfrost.ltd@gmail.com. I'll update the first post with it as well
Ooh, a questionnaire~ I can do one of those.
- State your interest in playing:
Kind of casual, myself. I'd probably pop in and out until I got bored~ I mostly dabble or fiddle around besides; I don't know how to use Redstone Circuits and I've never really been arsed to build anything other than a small place to hang my helmet, but I do enjoy the game. - Your favorite game mode to play in:
I personally enjoy Survival. Hardcore for a casual, community server doesn't really make much sense while Creative kind of promotes block spam -- though if the server was all about pixel art and whatnot, I could definitely see that working. - What version of Minecraft you want to play:
Although I love me some mods in 1.7.10, I also love the new skin features of 1.8.0... so that's a pretty tough choice for me. Either way, I'll go with whatever's popular though! - What mods if any you'd like to suggest for the server:
Treecapitator - Knock down trees by Axing just one block!
That would be absolutely awesome. Oh, and maybe...
Enchanting Plus - Select what enchantments you want for a higher XP cost. - What mod packs, if any you'd like to suggest for the server:
Client-side, I don't use any recognized packs of mods, but I do have a bunch I'd hearily suggest to enhance your Minecraft experience. I just don't have the list on me... XD
Server-side, again, no recognized packs. I've heard good things about stuff like Yogspack or Feed the Beast, but I can't personally suggest them myself. Especially if they require a version of Minecraft below 1.7.10... - How much you think you'd be able to donate to keep the server running, per month:
I'm a bum right now (so to speak), but if I were to start seriously playing on this server, I could probably toss in a couple bucks a month... And if others can do that, we'll have a server for quite a while~! - Any additional comments or concerns you may have:
I'm curious if non-Sprites INC members can join the server. I have a friend who isn't in the community, but loves Minecraft and has been looking for a good server with nice people to play alongside and with.
Other than that, I like the idea of having a dedicated Sprites INC server. I'm sure there's more than a few people who'd love to play Minecraft with members of the Sprites INC community!
